Yamato Agari (東 大和 Agari Yamato) is the main character in the series Karakuri Dôji Ultimo.

He is the reincarnation of a bandit, also named Yamato, that tried to assault Roger Dunstan in 12th Century Kyoto. He along with his group of bandits tried to steal the two boxes containing Ultimo and Vice, thus starting the everlasting battle between them and the other Karakuri Dôji.

Appearance[]

For his age, Yamato is relatively tall and is a man of normal build. His facial features comprise simply of medium length brunette hair, that is arranged with a prominent and spiked fringe commonly swept to one particular side, and equally dark brown eyes. Due to the present circumstances surrounding his age, Yamato spends a significant percentage of time in school, resulting in his typical clothing consisting simply of the uniform that he wears when attending Senjo Academy.

Yamato's original incarnation of the 12th Century, remains relatively the same in appearance, with only his clothes changing dramatically between the two periods. Although, his hair still retains it's largely spiky styling, it is considerably longer in length and is tied back using a long thin length of cheap fabric. It was abject poverty that drove Yamato towards the occupation of a bandit and his clothes are a representation of the current life leads, being both of the lowest quality and greatly torn, and comprising of only of an unbranded kimono and dark sash with a single katana worn on to his left side.

After numerous years of traveling with Ultimo during this 12th Century, Yamato's wears have drastically altered, demonstrating the significant amount of respect and popularity he has now earned. Although, a large portion of items remain the same, they are of much higher quality and have lost the peasant appearance previously attributed to them. The additions of armor covering the majority of the left arm and both legs, a large bow and quiver of arrows are slung on his back. Around the time when he met Ekobo, his hair grew a little longer and he had grown small patch of hair on his chin. Ekobo reincarnation, Shin Ekoda, described him a "fine young man" who had "the appearance of a man among men".

Once Yamato reach Level 2 of ICON mode, he gains is own personalize "ICON Suit". Compare to the other dôji masters, Yamato's initial ICON Suit is a simple dark loincloth. However, Yamato later gains a long, dark fur-lined coat to wear over mostly his expose body.

Personality[]

The 12th Century Yamato was a bandit of honor, who wanted to defeat the corrupt nobles because their actions have cost many people's homes and families. He treated his group like family and they in return trusted him and were loyal towards him. He was shown to be caring, fair, noble, kind, calm, and showed great leadership skills over his group, which was composed of adults and children alike. However, he was shown to be rather crass and cocky at times, which lead him to underestimate his enemies and acted recklessly, but confidently charged into battle all the same. Due to the fact he was a bandit, this causes many characters to criticize the 21st century Yamato, but Shin Ekoda said the reason he thought Yamato could be the leader of The Good Dôji Club was not because he is simply Ultimo's master, but a righteous bandit who fought for the good of all.

The 21st Century, Yamato was originally like every other normal school boy, with no other ambition than to remain completely normal. He is described as immensely enthusiastic and kind, but always gets himself into trouble and basically has the same personality traits he had in the past. However, the current Yamato is known for his loud voice, naïve remarks and impulsive actions, much to the annoyance of many characters and is regarded as an "idiot" and somewhat "incompetent" by his friends and the dôji. Noticeable differences between the eras are that he is more rash, hot-tempered, doesn't think things through and is quick to pick a fight and punch anyone that makes him angry. His kind, noble, and albeit rash actions is often a surprise to many characters and sometimes has an impact on people, noticeably Jealous, who often thinks about Yamato's kindhearted actions and even Vice, who briefly thought about Yamato after saving him from Roger Dunstan. According to his mother, Fushimi Agari, comments that most of the 21th Century Yamato's personality is inherited from his father, including his clumsiness.

Yamato is also rather comical compare to his friends and others, often causing or getting into embarrassing situations, thus providing most of the comic relief in the series. Although, in the most serious and intense situations, he is more sober, capable, and simply unpredictable when in danger. According to Rune Kodaira, he does have the tendency not to drop anything that he would get involved with, reflecting his past self's values. While he initially wanted nothing to do with the dôji, he reenacted the Pledge Ritual with Ultimo and decided to fight to protect all of those close to him. Throughout the story, Yamato has slowly matured as he learns about the dôji and those around him in his efforts to save the world and keep his friends safe. Contrary to what others think of him, Yamato displayed to be very intelligent and conniving, shown mostly when he puts his mind to the task at hand. For example, he was able to stop Jealous by simply taking his master hostage instead head-on likes some might excepted from him. Aside from following Shin Ekoda's advice "to observe to learn", Darumada Masami claims Yamato's wits is because he never lost his "bandit instinct".

In Chapter 48, Yamato confesses to Rune that his comical, upbeat behavior is a façade and deep down has a more pessimist disposition. Due to his father leaving him when he was very young and his mother Fushimi Agari rarely ever home, Yamato was usually more or less has the company of (questionable) adult babysitters for most of his childhood. This caused Yamato to be wary of others and felt lonely throughout his childhood, but adopted a cheerful outward demeanor to cope with his negative emotions, which became his defensive mechanism as he grew up and moved to Farmless City. Even with all his friends and The Good Dôji Club, Yamato kept up this façade in the mist of the One Hundred Machine Funeral, and admits the only person that broke down his emotional barrier was Rune because of his sincere and attentive love for him.

Yamato has also shown his historic honorable side, as he is against hurting anybody who can't move or fight, even if they're evil and always show kindness towards people, even those who had hurt him. Yamato often lets his emotions get in away of battle, to Musashi Murayama's dismay, but Goge and Sophia are able to sense that this is because he fights with love without negative emotions or intent, which is why Ultimo choose him as his master. According to Jealous, Yamato is the only person that seems to able avoid his heart reading ability to some extent. Jealous also has said that Yamato has something that his heart reading Noh can't discern, saying there's something "warm and peaceful" deep within him.

Yamato has a massive, and somewhat obsessive, crush on Makoto Sayama since they met and she is often the only thing he thinks about, which often causes his friends to tease him about his feelings toward her. Although usually trying to win her affections, Yamato doesn't let his feelings for Sayama influence his moral compass; as when offered a chance to impress her and was offers money to buy lavish gifts for her, Yamato refuse because he knows buying someone's affections wasn't right. Sayama is also the one who influences him in his thoughts when he is faced with a decision that will risk the lives of many. He also tends to be rather melodramatic when he believes that he ruins his chance with her or does something awkward in front of her, thinking "my life is over".

Biography[]

The 12th Century[]

Born in the Heian period, Yamato's life was full of strife due to corrupted nobility and the government officials, and developed a deep hatred towards them. Becoming a bandit by his teenage years, Yamato formed a group with other bandits, such as Hyottoko and Daruma, and became the leader. Despite his harden and violent lifestyle, Yamato only robbed from the nobility and maintained a sense of honor, even taking in orphaned children, such as Saya.

One day, a 16-years-old Yamato and his gang encountered Roger Dunstan, whom (unknown to Yamato) was a brilliant scientist from The 30th Century, and believed him to be a trader on the way to see the nobles. While Yamato and gang promised not to harm Dunstan as long he didn't resisted, the latter was amused by their antics and warned them not to open the boxes containing his Karakuri Dôji - Ultimo and Vice. Although Dunstan openly explained what the Karakuri Dôji were and the danger they posed, Yamato scoffed at his words and opened the boxes, waking up Ultimo and Vice. When Dunstan inquired about Yamato's suitability as a master, Ultimo summarize that Yamato's actions were forgivable in consideration of his difficult life yet deemed him too violent to be his master. Initially thinking Ultimo was a child, Yamato aggressively threated Dunstan, but was swiftly corrected an angered Vice, who wished to kill them for awaking him. As Vice began slaughtering his men and showcasing his abilities, Yamato watched in horrified shock and recalled Dunstan's words about ultimate good and evil, but regained his composure and focus to protect his comrades. Although Yamato wished for his men to fled and handle Vice alone, they refused out of loyalty to him and each other - a sentiment that spurred Ultimo to fight for them. Confused by why the two dôji would fight each other, Yamato questioned Dunstan and listen to his explanation about the dôji's nature and the reason for their existence - to determine whether good or evil was stronger. Dunstan remarked that it will be interesting to see how Yamato - the person responsible for awaking the dôji - was going to handle the long crisis and disappeared from Yamato's sight. After Ultimo chased Vice away, Yamato and Ultimo eventually preformed the Pledge Ritual, thus becoming Ultimo's master.

With the strength of a Karakuri Dôji on their side, Yamato spend the next three years training with Ultimo, expanding his bandit group, and gathering materials and resources all in preparation for an attack on the capital city to kill the corrupted nobles. At age 19, Yamato's bandits became large enough to rivalled an army, in part due to life getting more harsh toward the commoners, and was strong enough to finally attacked the capital. On the night of the attack, Yamato proudly reflected how far they come and credited their growth to Ultimo. Knowing many people will died in the battle, Yamato told Ultimo he didn't have to join him, but Ultimo assured him that will fight by his side and fulfill his purpose to learn how distinguish good and evil. At night, Yamato and his army marched to Raseimon gate and encountered Jealous, another of Dunstan's Karakuri Dôji. As everyone was shocked at seeing another dôji, Yamato tried to calm them down as Jealous's master, Tomomitsu Iruma, demanded that the bandits leave and informed Yamato why Dunstan created more dôji, as well insulting Yamato's bond with Ultimo. Yamato was then taken hostage by Jealous and learned about the One Hundred Machine Funeral for the first time. Following Iruma's own explanation, Yamato realized that Dunstan planned everything long ago and expressed distasted for Iruma's bid for power by driving off the bandits. After Iruma and Jealous went into their ICON mode, Yamato and Ultimo engaged them in battle and defeated them, allowing the bandits to entered the capital. As the bandits began their mass pillaging, Yamato, Hyottoko and Daruma headed to the personal chamber of Emperor Kotsutsubo, who was about to consummated his marriage to the reluctant Lady Gekko. Proudly announcing who they were and their intention, Yamato oust Kotsutsubo out of the capital, completing his mission to free the land from the nobles' rule.

The next day, Yamato and his army withdrew from the capital and celebrated their victory, but Hyottoko questioned if that was wise to leave since the surviving remnants of the government could end up corrupted again. However, Yamato was content to let the people do what they want since his only concern was to fight evil. Yamato was also more concerned on what to do with Lady Gekko, who was smitten with Yamato and choose to stay with him. A displeased Ultimo pointed that Lady Gekko was part of the nobility that Yamato deemed "evil", but Yamato saw that she was different from the corrupted nobles they slayed. Lady Gekko admitted that she played a part of letting the land suffered, but vowed to do better by the masses alongside Yamato - an gesture that moved him to reciprocated her affections. Soon after, the two eventually married, thought many of Yamato's bandits were uncomfortable their leader's new wife due to her noble roots and their relationship caused Ultimo to developed a deeply buried jealously towards her. One day, Yamato shared a meal with Lady Gekko and his comrades, leaving Ultimo alone and creating an opportunity for Vice to manipulate his dôji into killing his lover.

After Lady Gekko's death, Yamato went to a temple ran by monk Ekobo and requested for him to hold her funeral. With the other bandits in attendance, they discussed Ultimo's actions, with Yamato lamenting that it was his fault for not teaching Ultimo better and paying more attention to him. While Ekobo expressed his condolences for his loss, he pointed out that Ultimo believed he was doing the right since he was taught all nobles were evil and Yamato's army killed many people for their own brand of justice. Ekobo encouraged Yamato to forgive Ultimo, though the grieving Yamato was hesitant in deciding what to do with him, but thanked Ekobo's for his advice. As Yamato prepared to end the conversation, Ekobo mentioned the Karakuri Dôji and that he has one too - Regla. Regla questioned what Yamato wanted to do since he purposely chosen to the temple due to the rumors of them helping visitors forget sad memories, but informed if that Yamato can't be the only one to have his memories erased. Regla explained to him that Ultimo might make the same mistake if he keeps his memories too, though the remorseful Ultimo gave his consent since be around his master was painful. Before they could further discuss what to do, Vice and his new master Kotsutsubo attacked the temple, but Ekobo and Regla intercepted them in their ICON. Upon seeing God Regla losing the fight, Yamato tried roused Ultimo so they could help them, but Ultimo was too ashamed to join him. Recalling Ekobo's words, Yamato told Ultimo that he was forgiven and, with their bond repaired, the duo set out to battle Vice.

The outcome of the battle was unknown, but Yamato and Ultimo were presumably able to drive Vice and Kotsutsubo off, but Ekobo was killed in the battle, leaving Regla to take Saya as his next master.

The 21st Century[]

Childhood[]

Yamato's soul was reincarnated into the modern age by Milieu, born as the son of Fushimi Agari and an unknown man when the former was 16-years-old. As Yamato's father left them when he was very young, Yamato possessed very little memories of his father and was raised by his mother. However, Fushimi was often absent from home due to work and her form of tough love towards her son left Yamato feeling neglected and lonely. Furthermore, Fushimi usually hired indifferent, sometimes shady, babysitters to watch Yamato, which only increased Yamato's sadness. Not wanting to trouble others, Yamato learned to cope with his emotions by behaving energetically and sporting a smile on his face. When Yamato was 10-years-old, he and Fushimi moved to Farmless City in Tokyo due their family circumstances, trading their modest house for a cheap apartment. For school, Yamato transferred to Senjo Academy, entering the fifth grade and was assigned to Class 5-2.

On his first day, Yamato was running late since spent the morning drinking milk to cool himself down due the hot weather and needed to pee. In class, Yamato introduced himself to his classmates, withholding his bladder all the while. During lunch recess, Yamato's classmates kept giving their milk to since he told them it was his favorite drink, preventing him from going the bathroom. On request by their teacher, Yamato met with class representatives Rune Kodaira and Makoto Sayama to get a tour around the school. Taken by Sayama's cute appearance, Yamato developed an instant crush on the girl and gushed her over as she explained school's system. Yamato then encountered Kiyose Matsumoto, their class librarian, trying to sneak all her favorite manga to the shelves. Yamato promised not to tattle to the teacher and offered to help her smuggled her books to the library. As Ruen reminded Yamato's need to pee, Hibari Oume came running behind him, using him as a barrier to get away from an furious Akitsu Otake for playfully flipping her skirt up. Due to Akitsu's height and Hibari's small size, Yamato mistakenly thought an "upperclassman" was bullying "underclassman" and dared Akitsu to turn her attention toward him. However, Rune corrected Yamato that the girls were in the same grade as him just as Hibari loss her temper for Yamato's comment on her height, causing him to be the target of both girls' attacks. Due to the hits, Yamato accidently pee in his pants, which only Rune and Sayama noticed, and started to worried how everyone else was going to reacted. Sayama cleverly sprayed water on Yamato with a hose to cover up his accident, but this caused the other surrounding children to believed Sayama was being mean to him. Touched by Sayama's kindness, Yamato loudly misled the others into thinking Sayama was just cooling him off with the water since he was hot, ending the recess on a cheerful note. As Yamato settled in his new life, he became best friends with Rune and developed friendly relations with Sayama and the other girls.

During his first Christmas in Farmless City, Yamato was invited to spend the holiday with his friends at Sayama's mansion, which made Yamato very excited since it was the first Christmas party he ever celebrated. Tp prepare for the gift exchange they were doing, Yamato created a poorly-made clay sculpture of Sayama's head. Due to his overenthusiasm, Yamato waited outside in the snow for a whole night before the party, causing him to freeze up by morning. After meeting up with Rune and the girls, they headed to Sayama's house and Yamato was amazed by how luxurious as it was also the first time seeing her home. While Sayama started the gathering with a meal, Yamato eagerly wanted to started gift exchange so that he could pick Sayama's present. Since Yamato was unable to contained his energy, Sayama reluctantly agreed to start the gift exchange, though she proposed that they randomly draw names to determine who get which present. Yamato suggested that they play a game of tag since Sayama has a big house, which she agreed to do, much to the annoyance of Akitsu and Hibari. Since it was his idea, Yamato was "it" and was tasked with a 10 minutes time limit to catch everyone, but will go last if he failed and everyone else goes in order of who lasted the longest. After counting to ten, Yamato quickly tagged Rune, who was waiting outside the Yamato was in as his way of helping him. On top of a chandelier, Hibari loudly announced her position to Yamato and challenged him to try tagging her, planning to wait out the time limit to end the game. While Rune worried how to get Hibari get down, Yamato called her "pipsqueak" to enraged her into attacking him with a flying kick, allowing him to tagged her and getting down her at the same time.

Yamato and others then headed to the library and Yamato correctly guessed Kiyose was there, tagging her and leaving only Sayama and Akitsu left to find. Checking the garden, Yamato found Akitsu and had only one minute left to find Sayama, but had trouble searching for her the house. As Rune kept an eye of the time, Yamato ended up tripping and started to cry since time was ran out for him, but Sayama appeared and let Yamato tagged her, giving him the win. In the dining room, Yamato finally claimed Sayama's present, unaware that Akitsu replaced Sayama's gift with a creepy cutout love letter made by Sayama's stalker, K, as a prank. However, Yamato was undisturbed by the letter and overjoyed with its content, much to Akitsu's disbelief and Sayama's wary confusion.

For the next 10 years, Yamato continued to lived in Farmless City and moved on the high school division of Senjo Academy, assigned to Class 2-B in his second year, alongside the rest of his friends.

Part I[]

In the year of 2012, Yamato walked to school and met with Rune, who reminded him that Sayama's birthday was today and they were going her party later tonight. Having forgotten his crush's birthday, Yamato berated himself not remembering and panicked about getting a gift for since he didn't have any money. After meeting Sayama briefly on the way to school, Rune stated that he had no money to lend him either, causing Yamato to dejectedly resigned to selling his school bag for money at Kokubundo Shoppe. While Rune tried to talked him out of his scheme, Yamato noticed a slumbering, dirty Ultimo in a glass case. Triggered by the sight of him, Yamato muttered Ultimo's name, but was unable to comprehend why he did it. When Rune question the owner Taiji Kokubun about the "doll", Yamato listen to Kokuban recounted his story about finding Ultimo in the mountains and was amazed its account. Taking a closer at Ultimo, Yamato ended waking him upon entering his sensory range and was startled when Ultimo hugged him. Believing Ultimo was a child, Yamato grew confused by Ultimo's familiarity with him and his explanation about his reincarnation and Vice. Ignoring his words, Yamato gently told Ultimo that his only concern was buying Sayama a present and scolded Kokuban for leaving his "grandson" in a display case.

After leaving the store, Yamato and Rune fetched a bus to school and Rune remarked that his observations on his encountered with Ultimo. However, Yamato proclaimed to Rune that he didn't want anything to do with Ultimo, sensing trouble if he were to be involved with him, and a name had been flashing through his head since he lay eyes on him - Roger Dunstan. Out of nowhere, Vice appeared before Yamato and sliced the bus in two pieces, but Yamato and the other civilians were safe since Ultimo saved them by throwing off Vice's aim and kept them from crashing to the ground. While being held up from Ultimo, Yamato watched in stunned silence as Vice stabbed Ultimo near his spirit sphere. Despite Rune's protests to run away, Yamato climbed out of bus to confront Vice, who mocked Yamato and threaten to destroy everyone he loves before killing him. Angered by Ultimo's condition and the threats, Yamato foolishly attempted to hit Vice with his school bag, but Ultimo took advantaged of the distraction and bisected Vice before the two made physical contact with each other.

However, Ultimo's injuries caused him to dropped the bus, causing an explosion around the area, but Yamato came out unscathed. Seeing Ultimo unconscious on the ground, Yamato picked up his body and remarked that Ultimo's internal structure was all mechanical. When K suddenly showed up, Yamato learned that he was Vice's master and how the two met, but K refused to share information on the dôji and mocked Yamato's cluelessness. When K started to abused the unconscious Vice, Yamato grew angry by K's immature cruelty and punched him. As Yamato threaten K to reveal his knowledge, Officer Darumada Masami and the police arrived to the scene and was accused Yamato and Rune being the perpetrators of the explosion. K then framed Yamato and Rune as the perpetrators and that Yamato got violent with him, though Yamato tried to defended himself, but Darumada aim his gun at them and demanded that they come with him to the police station with to hash it out the details. When K mocked Yamato and mentioned Sayama, Yamato attacked him again, but had to retreated since K ordered Vice to protected and caused the dôji's automatically go into ICON mode. After K fled the scene, Yamato and Rune took the chance to run away with Ultimo in tow and were able to escape to alley. While Rune complained about their situation, Yamato stated that bringing Ultimo was the right thing to do since he saved them and he planned on fixing him. Although Rune was doubtful that Yamato could repair him, Yamato stated that Ultimo was not normal robot and acknowledged he has a "heart". Yamato also remarked the won't run away from his problems now that he was involved with Ultimo too and bid Rune farewell as he wanted to head school.

Sneaking back to his apartment, Yamato was caught by his mother, who only scolded him for skipping school and informing him she will be at returning home tonight. In his bedroom, Yamato inspected Ultimo's damages and believed the best way to heal him was to make the Pledge Ritual, despite not knowing what it was. Reading into the romantic connotations of words, Yamato thought kissing Ultimo might wake him up and was prepared to do so. However, Ultimo opened his eyes before Yamato do anything as just Sayama arrived, who wanted to check on Yamato when he didn't come to school. Due to their compromising position, Yamato was extremely embarrassment and fainted from shock once a stunned Sayama silently left.

While passed out, Yamato dreamed of his past life in the 21th century, specifically the night where he attacked the capital city and met Iruma and Jealous. Due the excitement of dream, Yamato ended waking up in a fighting stance and see Ultimo sleeping beside him. Remembering the awkward events from before, Yamato checked his phone to see Sayama texted him not to come to her birthday party. Depressed by Sayama's uninviting him, Yamato brooded in the shower, but was interrupted by Ultimo, who wanted to help him bathe. However, Yamato flatly rejected Ultimo and told him to leave, which caused the dôji to literally flied out of the apartment in tears. After exiting the shower, Yamato spotted a delicious dinner on the table and deduced that Ultimo cooked it for him, making him realized that the gravity of chasing Ultimo out meant for him. Yamato acknowledged that Ultimo was the only source of intel he had and he cannot stop K and Vice without him. Upon hearing a sound by the entrance, Yamato thought Ultimo came back, but found Jealous, who questioned where his dôji's location. Recognizing him from his dream, Yamato identify Jealous as another dôji, which Jealous took as a sign of Yamato's reunion with Ultimo. When Jealous threaten to kill to Yamato, Iruma stopped him and attempted to bargain Yamato by offered 100 million dollars in exchange for Ultimo. Remembering the mayoral posters around town, Yamato recognize Iruma a politician and someone from his dream as well, prompting Iruma to explained his reincarnation and one of the many people pulled into Dunstan's plans. Attempting to gain Yamato's trust, Iruma lied to him about wanting to collect all the Karakuri Dôji and destroyed them, though Yamato was uneased by his words and showed signs of doubts. When Yamato explained that he chased Ultimo away, Iruma explained Ultimo will come back if Yamato call for him and asked for his cooperation. Seeing Yamato's distrust, Iruma refocused on his bribed money and pointed out that Yamato can use it to buy a gift for Sayama, making Yamato get caught up with the idea of repairing his relationship with her. However, knowing getting Sayama's good graces on material wealth was wrong and Ultimo was not a someone he "owned", Yamato rejected the the money. An enraged Iruma then tried to pressured Yamato by reminding his trouble with police, Yamato grabbed Iruma by his collar and demanded that he and Jealous leave or he will call for Ultimo to force them out.

When Iruma ordered Jealous to kill him, Yamato watched in disbelief as Jealous murdered his master instead. As Jealous prepared to leave, Yamato questioned his reason for killing Iruma, who only stated that he was tired of Iruma's shallowed ways, and chided the evil dôji for his impassive response to justify murder. Intrigued by Yamato, Jealous inquired if Yamato would be master and teach him about good and evil, though he also warned him not if overstepped beyond that, but Yamato was unable to answer him due to his surprise at the request. In an attempt to stop Jealous from leaving, Yamato touched his shoulder, but this caused him to lashed out and accidently made a deep cut in his arm, causing a lot of blood to spurted out. In his panicked state, Yamato stressed over the situation: the corpse in his home, blood spilling everywhere, and not being able to fix his relationship with Sayama if he dies. Fortunately, Ultimo arrived back and promised to not let his beloved master succumb to his wound, then proceeded to furiously beat Jealous in revenge for the harm he caused towards Yamato. Pushing aside his concerns for the damage Ultimo caused and the crowd forming around them, Yamato became wary of how violent the dôji was acting. He ordered Ultimo stop once Jealous was unable to fight anymore, snapping Ultimo out of his trance and piquing Jealous's curiosity by his display of mercy. He grew confused when Ultimo alluded to how he gave into his violent impulses "again", but shifted his attention when Regla made his presence known. Shin "Eco" Ekoda then drive up to Yamato on his moped, carrying Iruma's corpse, and told him to come with them before the police arrive.

Due to the excessive blood loss, Yamato fainted before he could answer Eco, leaving the man to carried the unconscious teenager with him. While Yamato was asleep, Eco had Pardonner healed his arm and was dressed in a poncho as Ultimo stayed behind at Eco's request. By the time Yamato woke up, Eco made a pitstop at a 7-Eleven store near the mountains and introduced himself to Yamato. Although Yamato asked Eco many questions, Eco deliberately avoided answering him, only explaining that they were traveling to The Good Dôji Club's hideout to meet the other masters and informed him what happened after he fainted. At an abandoned hospital, Yamato formally met Parodnner and was annoyed by the dôji's rude behavior before entering the building with Eco and Regla. After Eco mentioned that the club's rule of secrecy, Yamato inquired about what happened to people to learn of the Karakuri Dôji's existence. Eco stated that anyone that learned of the dôji will have their minds tampered by Regla's memory manipulation Noh, which shocked Yamato and questioned if that they had messed with his friends' mind. When Eco implied that he have might, Yamato angrily tried to attack Eco, but was subdued by Regla, who chided him for his aggressive behavior and threat to wipe his memories too. Thinking that Eco and Regla were bad people, Yamato yelled out to Ultimo for help and was dumbfounded when his dôji just lightly smacked Regla's head. Eco revealed that he was testing Yamato to see if he was worthy of being the club's leader and that he passed, though Yamato ended up punching Eco out of frustration for the charade. Yamato wondered if they told him any lies, but Pardonner vouched that everything they said was true and assured him that Regla didn't mess with his friends. As the other masters shown themselves to Yamato, he was annoyed by some masters' insulting attitude towards him and grew confused by their explanations of the situation, especially when asked if he took the Pledge Ritual with Ultimo yet.

Still thinking the Pledge Ritual has a romantic connotation, Yamato impulsively punched Eco again out of embarrassment, which made the others realized his lack of knowledge. When an irritated Hiroshi Kumegawa intimidated Yamato to hurry up and do the Pledge Ritual, Yamato was frighten and internally expressed doubted how he could be a good dôji master. As the other master started to bickered with one another, Yamato became underwhelmed by thee group's lack of cohesion, Musashi Murayama explained it was because club was only recently formed and they need a leader - a position Yamato was supposed to fulfilled as he was Ultimo's master since his dôji was the strongest. Although Yamato was hesitated to be part of the club, Musashi pointed out that it was too late for Yamato to removed himself the circumstances now that he experiencing memories from his past and his bond with Ultimo. Yamato listen as the others explained their goal to capture Dunstan, who can travel across space and time, and how the One Hundred Machine Funeral will destroy the world if occurs. Although Yamato was unable to processed all these revelations, Musashi prodded him to to the Pledge Ritual to increased their fighting power and encouraged him to find out what it exactly entailed. In a separate room, Ultimo explained to Yamato how the ceremony worked and was ready to begin, but Yamato was too nervous and went outside to think. He brooded over everything that he learned about Dunstan and the fate of the world, feeling pressured whether if he can really accomplish the club's goals. Despite wishing to turn his back to the situation, Yamato was conflicted about leaving Ultimo alone, but his musings were interrupted when his dôji came to check on him. Sensing Yamato's struggles to comprehend the Karakuri Dôji, Ultimo informed him about his origins and The 30th Century, but it caused him to be more confused due the time travel elements involved. When Ultimo stated the best way to understand was through the Pledge Ritual, Yamato regained his composure and resolved to do the ceremony, but considerately asked Ultimo if he truly wanted Yamato to be his master again. With both parties' consent, Yamato and Ultimo started the ritual, allowing Yamato to see visions of his past, present and future.

Following the ceremony's completion, Yamato and others discussed matters for a time, but decided to leave for the night since the others couldn't stopped arguing. Upon returning home, Yamato saw his apartment building in shambles and his mother waiting outside for him, only to suddenly be taken to an expensive cando. Realizing that his mother used the money Iruma left, Yamato was concern about her reactions, but relieved that she didn't ask him anything for the rest of the night. The next morning, Yamato headed to school and encountered Hibari, Akitsu, and Kiyose, whom all remarked on Yamato's involvement in the bus fiasco and having his home destroyed because of a "gas explosion". When the girls brought up Rune's absence yesterday, Hibari speculated that it was because the "flying kid" from bus incident, causing Yamato to panicked and was unable figure out a good excuse or lie. Fortunately, Rune timely appeared to rebuked Hibari's exclamation in his place and Sayama led girls away, though Yamato bemoaned the tension between them. Now alone, Yamato questioned Rune's reason for keeping Ultimo a secret, but Rune commented it wasn't the best time or place to discuss it and promised him won't tell anyone about Karakuri Dôji. Concerned over his friend's unusual behavior, Yamato reflected how it was best to keep a distance from his friends in class.

As he began to fall asleep, Yamato was promptly challenge to a fight by Hana Koganei and Edile, the latter being a gigantic form and easily drawing attention to the entire student body. Although Yamato wanted to ignored her, Hana smashed the gym and vowed to destroy the whole academy if he didn't call Ultimo. With no pointed in being subtle anymore, Yamato confidently answered to Hana's challenge and summoned Ultimo, promising beat her and disappeared. While Hana and Edile attacked first, Yamato calmly watched as Ultimo sliced off Edile's arm, telling the evil duo to leave or he will break Edile retaliation. As Hana voiced her disbelief how Yamato and Ultimo preformed the Pledge Ritual so soon, Yamato became flustered by his classmates' surprised expressions and was then confronted by Sayama to explain what was doing on. Although Yamato wished to her the truth, he believed that she and the others won't be able comprehend it and Regla would mess with their minds if he did. Therefore, he simply told Sayama he had go before leaping out the window to reach Ultimo and transformed into their ICON mode - God Ultimo. Hana and Edile attempted to stopped their transformation, but Yamato and Ultimo put up a barrier to protect themselves and the school from any damage. Yamato gave the duo one last chance to leave, but young child refused to give up, so Yamato quickly ended the battle by using Ultimo's Time-Space manipulation to reverted Edile to his normal, smaller form. Since Hana fainted, God Ultimo caught her in his hand and demanded that Edile come with them for interrogation.

However, Rune stepped in and ordered Yamato let them go or he'll kill their friends, revealing that he was Jealous's new master and he webbed up all their classmates. Shocked to see his best friend with an evil dôji, Yamato questioned Rune, leading the latter to remind Yamato about Lady Gekko and causing him to realize that Rune was her reincarnation. After hearing Rune's retelling of their past lives, Yamato was surprised and speechless by his declaration of love and his insistent that Yamato should accept his feelings. Yamato told Rune he was unable to so do due to their modern-day friendship and his crush on Sayama, though Rune believed those things didn't matter. While distracted by his friends' reactions to the conversation, Yamato was caught off-guard when Rune charged at him in his own ICON and pinned him to the ground, electrocuting and stabbing him. Hearing Rune viciously announced his intent to kill Ultimo, Yamato remarked how wrong Rune was acting, but grew confusion when Rune stated Ultimo "deceived" by not showing all him all his memories from the 12th century. Shocked that his dôji would hide something from him, Yamato recalled the moments when Ultimo displayed guilt of something that happened in the past, paying no mind to Ultimo's urgings not to listen to Rune. When the police arrived, Yamato warned Darumada to stayed away and took advantaged of Rune's lapse in attention to teleported them away to the forest around Mt. Fuji. Rune mocked Yamato for choosing such stage for their fight and how his shaken trust in Ultimo had weaken his ICON, but Yamato stated that he still trust his dôji more than him and pointed out that Rune was too focused on him that he didn't notice Hana and Edile was gone. Yamato revealed that The Good Dôji Club had been secretly around since their fight at Senjo Academy and that he handed their enemies off to them, as well as helping him by having Service distorted Jealous's Noh to keep their plans hidden. Despite the outnumbering Rune, Yamato promised him to have a fair one-on-one fight, a sentiment that touched Rune, and restarted the battle in earnest.

As they traded blows, Yamato asked Rune how he wanted to settle things between them, though he ended up rebuffing Rune's marriage proposal. While Yamato told Rune he understood his feelings, he can't return them since he liked Sayama, which tearfully enraged Rune and leading him to proclaimed that he was willing to kill Yamato and himself just rid himself of his all-consuming envy. Baffled by his friend's extreme behavior, Yamato angrily attempted to attack Rune from behind, but was pierced through the abdomen instead since Jealous's Noh allowed Rune to know his every move. Despite Rune threating Ultimo's life to coerced him into complying to his demands, Yamato still greatly cared about Rune, which the latter could telepathically sense and broken down crying. Just as Yamato was sway Rune over, Vice appeared and slashed Demon Spider in half, leaving Rune and Jealous to dismantled their ICON and collapsed to the ground. Furious over their condition, Yamato vowed to make him and K pay, engaging in ICON battle with them.

Not wanting Yamato to die or vice versa, Eco and Regla tried to stopped the them, but was intercepted by Fusataro Fussa and Rage, though their sudden appearance and Eco's fatal stabbing did caused God Ultimo and Demon Mask to ceased fighting. However, Yamato's temper raised again and attempted to restart the battle, but the other members of The Evil Dôji Branch soon swarmed the area and took his allies hostage, preventing Yamato from taking action. Upon hearing the truth of the One Hundred Machine Funeral and Musashi was from the 30th Century, Yamato was overwhelmed by the string of events and was unable processed it. He stayed silent as K proclaimed the Evil Dôji Branch's desire to rule the world after the Hundred Machine Funeral and Musashi remarking how it would have been better if Yamato and Ultimo were killed from the beginning so this outcome never occurred. As the rest of the Good Dôji Club were massacred, Yamato was frozen due to his horrifying shocked, not even fighting back as Demon Mask beat him down. He blamed himself for being the reason for the Earth's destruction, but realized he could turned back time. As Yamato began using the remaining energy in God Ultimo to manipulated Space-Time, Eco had Regla used his Noh simultaneously to make sure Yamato and Musashi remember these events in the new timeline to avoid making any mistakes.

Part II[]

On the morning of May 6, the day before the One Hundred Machine Funeral, Yamato walked to school and was greeted by Rune, who reminded him of Sayama's birthday party. Although his memories was briefly altered due to the time-travel, Yamato's memories from the first timeline quickly kicked in after seeing Kokubundo Shoppe. Upon encountering Akitsu, Kiyose, and Hibari on the way, Yamato notice that events are unfolding differently already and decided not to wake up Ultimo so that he could live normally and not trigger any mayhem. Happy that Rune was back to his old self, Yamato was looking forward to a peaceful day, but his hopes were dashed when a new transferred student arrived - Musashi. Remembering Musashi's words about killing him and Ultimo, Yamato become anxious, but Musashi quietly assured him that he won't hurt Yamato since wasn't Ultimo's master yet and that he was only besides Yamato that knew about the time reversal.

The two met up in restrooms to talk privately and Yamato angrily questioned Musashi about their situation, who explained the reason why their memories were still intact and informed him of Dunstan's background and his dôji Milieu's abilities. Although Yamato didn't want to get involved, Musashi stated that the One Hundred Machine Funeral was inevitable since Dunstan will find someone to replace him. Yamato was then held at gunpoint by Musashi, who gave him two options - reveal Ultimo's location so Musashi can use him as bait to capture Dunstan or take the Pledge Ritual again, but Musashi will kill them both if it seems another catastrophe was going happen. When Yamato hesitated to give answer, Musashi redrew his gun and instructed Yamato to meet with Eco at his sushi restaurant and speak with him, telling him that Eco could give a "third option". Before leaving, Musashi warned Yamato he won't let the destruction of world happen again, which Yamato noted that young man seemed to be currying a heavy burden. After school, Yamato silently walked with Rune, who believed Yamato was depressed for not having present for Sayama and offered to lend some money to him, but Yamato gently refused. Once alone, Yamato reflected over what to do about saving the world and protecting everyone he cares about, but spotted Dunstan and Milieu driving past him, sparking his determination to face the issue head-on. At Eco Sushi, Yamato was greeted by Eco and was relieved to him alive once again.

Having heard everything about the previous timeline by Musashi, Eco invited Yamato inside and reminisced he met Yamato in the past as "Ekobo", a comment that surprised Yamato since Ultimo never showed him memories of Ekobo during their Pledge Ritual. Giving Yamato a piece of "special" sushi, Eco lectured him on how people determined something is good or bad was subjective to each individual person, likening it to how one would perceived if something was good or evil. Eco stressed that ultimately someone won't really know something was like until they experience it, prompting Yamato to eat the sushi and found out to be only normal wasabi. Angered by Eco's light-hearted prank, Yamato punched him in the face, which he took in stride since it emphasized that that experience was needed to understand something. For Yamato's "third option", Eco suggested that he meet all Karakuri Dôji and their masters from both sides, stating it didn't matter how he choose to approach them as along as he gets to know them. By doing so, Eco believed that Yamato can find a way to avoid a repeat of the first One Hundred Machine Funeral. Yamato initially thought he didn't have enough time to do so, but Eco reminded him did because he can time travel with Ultimo's Noh. After hearing this, Yamato rushed out the sushi shop and headed back to Kokubundo Shoppe to wake up Ultimo.

Unfortunately, Yamato spied Tomomitsu Iruma and Jealous, who was disguised as a human, inside the shop and attempting to purchase Ultimo. While reeling from shock, Yamato hid himself to collect his thoughts, but gave away his position due to being annoyed how Kokubun nearly sole Ultimo off. Recognizing Yamato, Iruma commanded Jealous to kill him, but Yamato noticed that Jealous was about to aim for Iruma again and quickly shoved him aside, which surprised the evil dôji that Yamato predicted his intent and reacted before he could. As Jealous swing down his gauntlet to the grounded Yamato and Iruma, Ultimo awaken due to Yamato's proximity and blocked his brethren's attack. After Ultimo happily greeted his master, Yamato warmly welcomed Ultimo, emotionally moving him to hugged Yamato and inadvertently dig fallen glass into his skin. Not wanting Yamato and Ultimo to complete the Pledge Ritual, Iruma and Jealous transformed to their ICON, causing the store to collapsed around them. As Ultimo flew them away from their pursuers, Yamato remarked on the particular form of their Ground Spider ICON and listen to Ultimo explained how ICON mode worked. Although Ultimo tried to shake Ground Spider off and fight back, Ultimo was unable to defend everyone since carrying Yamato and Kokubun hampered his mobility, allowing Ground Spider to entrapped them in a web.

Opening Ground Spider's cockpit, Iruma smugly mocked Yamato, but became distracted and went on a temperamental rant when he notice innocent bystanders staring at them. Yamato was confused by Iruma's sudden tirade and was curious by Ultimo's remark that Iruma's behavior was linked to their past lives. Upon refocusing on Yamato, Iruma was about to impaled him, but was saved by Musashi and Sophia, who threw off Iruma's aim. Despite helping Yamato, Musashi proclaimed that he only wanted to destroy Ultimo, prompting Yamato to defend his dôji. However, Musashi lectured Yamato for his obliviousness of how "horrible" Ultimo can be and stated he must remember the past. After being freed by the webbings and Musashi stalling Iruma, Yamato and Ultimo reenacted the Pledge Ritual and transformed into God Ultimo to begin their time traveling. While traveling in the time dimension in Ultimo's Crane Plane form, Yamato learned that Ultimo won't be joining him to his trip since Karakuri Dôji cannot exist across different time and he has a 12 hour time limit because Ultimo's synergy with Yamato was still new and didn't have enough power for an extended stay. Ultimo explained to Yamato that he must not alter the timeline in any way and he must return within the time limit or he'll be stranded in the 12th century forever. When Ultimo asked Yamato for his destination, he decided to looked into Iruma's past and chosen the day when Iruma first got Jealous - April 14, 1182.

Clad in only a loincloth, Yamato was dropped off on a hill overlooking the capital city and was in awe of seeing the real location of his past memories. As he headed towards the Raseimon Gate, Yamato pondered how to meet with Iruma and how to find some clothes. When an ox-cart dealer rode down the road to the Imperial Palace, Yamato seized the opportunity to knocked out merchant and stole his clothes to entered the palace. However, Yamato was unable to figure out to handle the oxen and lost control of them, causing the cart to burst into a meeting among Mikado Kotsutsubo and the Imperial Court. After the 12th Century Iruma reined the oxen in for Yamato, Iruma requested him to follow him into the palace to get paid. As he followed Iruma, Yamato expressed disgusted for Mikado Kotsutsubo's uncouth and lazy demeanor, surpassing the urge to kill him. Walking down a hallway and taking in his surroundings, Yamato wondered whether Jealous was already here or not and took note of how Iruma's attitude seemed so different than the one he knew. Yamato's musings were cut off when Iruma remarked on how he was observing everything, though he stated it was because how pristine the palace was, which accidently blew his cover. Despite his worry, Iruma told Yamato he already figured out not an ox-cart dealer, assuming he was a bandit scheming to get money, and that he will paid one-tenth of the original price. Yamato was surprised by Iruma's kind and tolerant gesture, but the court official explained it was because he also came from a poor background. Yamato listen to Iruma voiced his noble desire to improved the country and save it from ruin, amazing him how sincere and good Iruma without Jealous's influence. Since Iruma allowed Yamato to stayed for night, Yamato waited it was late to sneak out and find Iruma's room. Yamato reminded himself that he only had an hour left before he needed to get to Ultimo, but he ended up getting lost. Upon hearing screams nearby, Yamato deduced that Iruma was the cause and followed to noise to Iruma's room, finding him with freshly dead bodies and the court official wearing crazed expression.

Under the delusion that men he killed were spies for Mikado Kotsutsubo, Iruma asked Yamato to help him take care of the bodies and proclaimed his intention to take over the nation. Remembering 21th Century Iruma given him a similar speech, Yamato realized that the source of Iruma's jealousy stemmed from his anger no one recognizing his ability to be a better Mikado. Having met Dunstan moments prior to Yamato entering the room, Iruma announced to Yamato that he knew Yamato came from the future to learn his secrets, much to his shock. Since Yamato didn't response to his words, Iruma ordered Jealous to dispose of Yamato and dropped down from the ceiling above him to attack. Taking one of the sword from one of the corpses, Yamato tried to protected himself, but Jealous easily shattered the sword and stabbed him through his stomach. As the wound started to bleed out, Yamato lamented about his failure to prevent the One Hundred Machine Funeral and desperately tried to figured out a way to deal with Iruma. As Jealous moved to deal the finishing blow, Milieu stopped him from hurting Yamato, stating killing a master would caused trouble for Dunstan. Freezing time around them, Dunstan also wiped Iruma's memories of Yamato to preserved the timeline and healed his wound. Panicking at the sight of old man, Yamato was stunned to hear that Dunstan approved his time traveling since it would allowed him to reach greater heights of "goodness". Dunstan also proclaimed that Yamato will never able to beat him no matter that he does, which angered Yamato. Grabbing Dunstan by the collar, Yamato furiously rant how Dunstan's actions disrupted the human masters' lives by giving them the Karakuri Dôji, particularly the evil ones to bringing out the darker side of once noble people like Iruma. Dunstan laughingly resorted that human beings' true nature can only reveal during extreme conflict and then punched Yamato so hard was sent flying across the room. Before disappearing, Dunstan dared Yamato to fight him once he become stronger. With no more time left, Yamato returned to Ultimo and to travel back to their time period, ignoring Ultimo's concern of his swollen face. Out of consideration, Yamato inquired if Ultimo was willing battle his creator when the time came, which he affirmed since the dôji must obey their masters. However, Yamato was slightly bothered by Ultimo's answer because didn't want to force Ultimo to anything, as well as stressing over everything he still had to do back home and the lack of knowledge he had on dôji. Returning to the exact moment they left, Yamato and Ultimo were greeted by Musashi, who told them to rest and leave the "clean up" of Iruma and Jealous to him.

When Musashi revealed that he planned to have Iruma's memories of today's events wiped by Regla and damaged Jealous to the point be won't pose a danger, Yamato argued that messing with Iruma's memory won't achieve anything. Seeing how Yamato developed sympathy toward the enemy, Musashi scolded him for emotional immaturity and pointed out Jealous will find new master if they separate him from Iruma. Musashi transformed into his ICON with Sophia to incapacitate the evil duo, but Yamato intervened and stopped God Sophia from hurting them. While the two argued with each other, Iruma took opportunity to stabbed Musashi, who bitterly cited Iruma's actions showed their enemies won't be talk down. Remembering his encounter with Dunstan, Yamato realized that Musashi knew that he met with the rouge scientist, prompting Musashi to confessed that he bluffed about destroying Ultimo to manipulated Yamato into taking action and predicted that Yamato's tendency towards trouble to would lead him to meet Dunstan. Musashi wanted Yamato to met Dunstan so that he could how powerful old man really was and how it might impossible to defeat him even with all Karakuri Dôji combined. While Yamato processed everything he heard, he watched Musashi failed attempted to fend off Ground Spider and witnessed his comrade collapsed. Infuriated, God Ultimo prepared to attack, but their ICON came apart due Ultimo's low energy level, causing Yamato to fall out naked and defenseless. As Yamato cradled his dôji in his arms, Iruma mocked Yamato for pushing Ultimo so much and moved to kill him, but Jealous undo their ICON and killed Iruma instead.

Distressed by everything that has happened, Yamato lamented his inability to change anything, despite the time reversal allowing him a second chance. As Yamato slowly began to lose consciousness, Jealous wanted Yamato to become his master, but Yamato's feelings towards Sayama acted as a emotional barrier that prevented by enacting the Pledge Ritual, forcing Jealous to flee the scene. The slumbering Yamato and others were retrieved by their comrades, Hiroshi Kumegawa and Machi Shina, and were taken to Koun Shakujii and Pardonner to be heal. Later, Yamato awoken from his sleep and was attended by Shakujii and Pardonner, who explained how he ended up their abandoned hospital base after losing consciousness. While Yamato was glad that Musashi was all right, Pardonner showed by Iruma's dead body and chided Yamato for not reflecting properly over his reckless actions, quickly sobering him up. As he got up to leave, Pardonner also informed him that Ultimo was shut down at the moment, saying that he shouldn't even think about turning back time again due to the risks, and should focus on giving his dôji energy so he could be heal. Frustrated by his failures, Yamato hit the wall in anger and snapped back at Pardonner's nonchalant demeanor, though the dôji took the outburst in stride. Carrying out Ultimo in tow, Yamato vowed to defeat Dunstan and return everything back to normal as he left the hospital. After putting some distance between him and hospital, Yamato remembered about Sayama's birthday party and he was late with meeting up with Rune. Heading back to Eco Sushi, Yamato checked his cell phone and was sadden to see no one tried to reach him, which Eco made fun of him for. Upon seeing Regla in his human form, Yamato was ordered to hid Ultimo and was given a summary of the existing cover story between Eco and Musashi so he didn't accidently rouse suspension among Eco's family. After meeting Eco's wife and sons, Yamato texted messages to his friends, oblivious to Regla's attempt to warned him that Rune was Jealous's master again, though Eco stopped him from saying anything to Yamato.

Since he was wearing a hospital gown, Yamato donned a baseball uniform Eco lend to him and rushed off to met up with Rune. As it began to rain, Yamato found his best friend and started walking to Sayama's house, but Yamato then heard a loud explosion from a distance. Knowing Vice's fight against Hiroshi and Machi was the cause the noise, Rune distracted Yamato, saying his imagination made it up. Upon entering Sayama's house, Yamato saw she cheerfully talking to Akira Hidaka and quickly got jealous. He also recognized Akira as a member of The Evil Dôji Branch and tried to tell Sayama to get away from him, but was interrupted by Hibari when she kicked him in the face for his rude behavior. Although his friends explained who Akira was and his close connection to Sayama, Yamato continued expressed his dislike towards the golfer, inciting Sayama's anger towards him and her demanding that Yamato leave if he was going keeping making a scene. Depressed by his crush's reaction, Yamato went into the restroom to mope as Rune consoled him. To worsen Yamato's heartbroken state, Rune lied to Yamato that Sayama and Akira were in a romantic relationship and that Yamato never had a chance with her. Under the excuse of wanting to make Yamato feel better, Rune suggested they sneaked out of the house and go over to Rune's home for the night.

Part III[]

Since it was Yamato's first time at Rune's mansion, Yamato was amazed how lavish it was and internally complained about how poor his financial situation was compared to all of his friends. As Yamato listlessly examined that the house, he was caught off-guard when Jealous revealed his presence and Rune ordered him to tied up Yamato to his bed. After being stripped down to his underwear and limbs bounded, Yamato yelled at Rune for actions and was extremely disturbed by Rune's goal of forcing sexual intercourse with him and Jealous's wish to have him as his master. Yamato tried to convince Rune to release him by mentioning the One Hundred Machine Funeral, but Rune didn't care about that and began disrobing, much to Yamato's shocked. However, Yamato received memories from Eco, who was dying due to his battle with Vice, and started perceiving Rune as Lady Gekko. Using the flood of memories to his advantage, Yamato cajoled Rune into freeing from his bondage and then took Rune hostage with a knife to his throat, stopping Jealous in his tracks. Yamato threaten to kill Rune if Jealous tries to prevent from leaving, a conviction that Jealous knew that was real thanks to his Noh. Not wanting Yamato to wake up Ultimo, Jealous decided to attack Yamato, but Rune ordered his dôji to back down because he didn't want Yamato to die and stated that Yamato wouldn't hurt him, despite having the intent. With Jealous being ordered to stay behind, Yamato and Rune left the house, wearing only his underwear and Rune covered with a bed sheet. They were picked by Darumada Masami, who also received memories from Eco and remembered his past relations with Yamato. Addressing Yamato as "chief boss", Durumada told Yamato and Rune that he was going drive them to meet someone, promising Yamato that two of them will catch up later.

As they drove off, Darumada notify Yamato that they were being followed by Sumako Miyoshi and Désir, members of The Evil Dôji Branch. Worried about being spied on, Yamato told Darumada not openly talk about their destination, which lead his old comrade to commented how much more serious and dependable Yamato was with all his memories back. While warily amused by that remark, Yamato proclaimed things were going become dangerous and wondered what to do with Rune, who was affectionally snuggling against him. Although uncomfortable, Yamato didn't know to handle the situation, but Rune sensed his discomfort and told him that he wasn't expecting anything from him. When asked about his memories, Yamato confirmed they were all there and then grew silent as he contemplated over the memories Ultimo had been hiding from him - the events surrounding the death of Lady Gekko. Recalling all the hints that his allies alluded to, Yamato realized that they were speaking about Ultimo's inability to discriminate between the good and evil of his actions. He was also confused why Eco only send him these specific memories, agonizing over how they didn't provide any answers for him. After Désir decided to attack Yamato, they entered a brief speed chase and lead Désir to Yoichi Oizumi and his dôji Service. Within the safety of their allies, Darumada finally revealed that he was taking Yamato to met with old comrade, Hyottoko. Although Yoichi told them to go ahead, Yamato and others stayed to watched Service fight Désir and was amazed how strong Service was. Upon hearing examples of Yoichi's self-sacrificing love, Yamato bemoaned how older man's life was unfair due to being mistreated and taken advantaged of by so many people. He questioned how Yoichi's deeds was considered love, but Rune explained it because Yoichi does things for other people's happiness, despite he might suffer for it in return.

After Service won the fight, Yamato became concern when Rune announced that he will be taking Sumako and Désir to a meeting among the Evil Dôji Branch members. Yamato plead to Rune not to go, but Rune proclaimed he won't be with Yamato as along Ultimo was beside him too and promised to fight him in the future before leaving. While Darumada playfully ribbed Yamato about Rune's dramatic exit, Yamato angrily berated his friend for his remark, but calmed down when Darumada reminded him they had to go to see Hyottoko. At the Tokoro Building, Yamato was dropped off by Darumada, who told that he would bring Musashi, Sophia, and Ultimo here too. As he headed inside, Yamato wondered what to do with Ultimo due his mixed feelings since his dôji killed his former lover in the past. Upon entering an office room, Yamato found it full with dangerous-looking mafia members and was confronted by one of the men, but Machi and Hiroshi explained to everyone that Yamato was meeting their boss. When Yamato addressed the two with familiarity, he was reminded that he haven't officially met them in the new timeline. Machi and Hiroshi informed Yamato about their backgrounds and Hiroshi's paralysis that Vice caused during their fight before sending him to Hyottoko, who was called "Hyoe Tokorozawa" the 21th Century. In a show of respect, Hyoe and the rest of the Hyottoko Gang bowed to Yamato, addressing him as ""chief boss" as they did in the 12th Century, much to Yamato's discomfort. After getting dressed in a suit Hyoe provided for him, Yamato and Hyoe speak privately and got straight to business, with Yamato inquiring if everyone in the gang were dôji masters. Hyoe clarified that they were "back-up masters" Dunstan prepared in case one ever dies, citing how Jealous was always drawn to Rune for that reason. Yamato was surprised to learned that Sayama and his other friends were masters too and was worried for their safety, knowing that Rune and Akira were close to the girls.

Wanting to save his crush, Yamato was prepared to move out, but Hyoe assured him that Musashi and Darumada were taking care of his friends. Hyoe pointed out that Sayama was the reincarnation of Saya, a fact that somewhat disturbed Yamato and left him complaining about his complicated life, though Hyoe remarked Dunstan was to blame. After taking to Hyoe, Yamato went to the roof to brooded over everything, especially his unsure feelings towards Ultimo. When Musashi and Sayama arrived, Yamato berated Musashi for involving her and making her a master, but Musashi resorted that she has always been a part the One Hundred Machine Funeral due to Eco and Dunstan. Sayama recounted their past lives and how she became Regla's master after Ekobo was killed by Vice. While carrying a sleeping Ultimo, Hyoe and Darumada also encouraged Yamato to remembered the past and then decide whether he can be with Ultimo. After recollecting his past self forgiving Ultimo, Yamato resolved to do the same in the present and awakened his dôji. Gathered up all his allies, the newly reformed Good Dôji Club then traveled to Sparrow Place, with Yamato and Ultimo flying there in their ICON.

God Ultimo arrived to find Dunstan and Milieu in their own ICON and a beaten Vice in his ICON in their grasp. Although Vice was didn't care for their presence, Yamato challenged Dunstan to a fight and was able to land a punch thanks to Service's Noh briefly negating Dunstan's powers. With Dunstan throw off-balanced, Musashi attempted to arrested Dunstan, though Yamato disapproved of Musashi taking action by himself. Despite being outnumbered, Dunstan quickly turned the tables on Musashi and send him flying into outer space, leaving Yamato to deal with Dunstan by himself. However, Dunstan blatantly and mockingly demonstrated his omnipresent powers to Yamato and the others, leaving the former particularly startled. Yamato questioned Dunstan's motives, but the older man refused to answer, only explaining rules of the One Hundred Machine Funeral and egged Yamato on in his quest to defeat him. Following Dunstan disappearance, Yamato picked up Musashi from space and then returned home to get ready for school, leaving Ultimo at Hyoe's office since he can't bring him to his home. While taking his usual route, Yamato was greeted by Rune, which exasperated him since Rune was behaving so normally, despite the major events they just witnessed hours ago. While chatting, Yamato was unsure how to speak with his friend, though Rune understood their strained relations, and claimed he and Jealous won't cause any trouble for now. Musashi then appeared to informed Yamato about Eco's funeral and requested that he to meet him at Eco's place to established their cover story after school. Still sadden by Eco's death, Yamato choose to skip school for the day to run an "errand".

Wanting Ultimo live openly with him, Yamato took him, Hyoe, and Darumada to his apartment to talk with his mother and was upfront with her about the One Hundred Machine Funeral and the Karakuri Dôji. Due the the outrageousness of the tale, Fushimi was understandably in disbelief and thought Yamato kidnapped a child, hitting her son as a result. Both Hyoe and Darumada vouched for Yamato and even promised to do favors in return for letting Ultimo stay at their home. Yamato was annoyed about his mother greedily exploiting his friends, but they stated they don't mind since it was best for Ultimo to always be near him. Not wanting to cause trouble to Yamato, Ultimo volunteered to stay at one of the Good Dôji Club's bases, but Fushimi told Yamato and the others she will allow Ultimo live with them under one condition - Ultimo does all the housework. After cleaning the apartment and cooking a meal, Fushimi agreed to let him stay, though Yamato disliked how his mother saw his dôji as a "daughter". Taking a walk with his friends, Yamato grumbled how Fushimi doesn't understand the full extent of his situation, but Hyoe comforted him by pointing out Ultimo was happy and that everything would be fine as along the two were together. As he worried over his future, Yamato remembered he was late meeting with Musashi and rushed over to Eco Sushi with Ultimo, but found his ally nowhere in sight. Sayama and Regla arrived to tell him that Musashi left with Sophia earlier, but didn't know where they went. Noticing how Ultimo attracting attention, Sayama offered to help Yamato shop for clothes, which made him ecstatic to spend time his crush. However, Yamato knew finding Musashi was more important and turned down Sayama's offer, taking only Ultimo with him in his search. Yamato and Ultimo eventually found Musashi and Sophia being tortured by Vice in their ICON mode and drew Vice's attention to them, allowing their allies to escaped. Using Ultimo's Noh to freeze Vice's movements, Yamato asked Ultimo if he really wanted to settle things with his evil counterpart now, which he confirmed because it was the best strategic move in order to prevent more tragedy. Although, Ultimo said that Yamato has the final word on the action they would take. Believing killing Vice off from the get-go wasn't right and they have to attend Eco's funeral soon, Yamato decided to teleported all of them to the mountains and free Vice from his stasis for a short skirmish.

After Vice landed heavy hits on God Ultimo, Yamato freeze Vice once more and listen to Ultimo's suggestion to kill Vice when he unable to move. Yamato chide Ultimo for saying that beating Vice was more important than acting in an honorable manner, though he does acknowledged the logic in it. In consideration of the One Hundred Machine Funeral's rules, Yamato explained killing Vice meant he won't be able to repent and they won't get him on their side, and it would be like they were giving into evil if they act in such cowardly way. To halt Vice's battle-hungry attitude, Yamato kept him froze and placed a recovering K in tree as a message to Vice that he can't face Yamato and Ultimo on equal ground until his master was better. Leaving Ultimo's Noh on Vice to wear off naturally, Yamato and Ultimo return home to get ready for Eco's funeral. Later at night, the two attended the ceremony and Yamato somberly reflected the impact Eco's death has on his family. Yamato took the time to talk to Musashi about their goal to defeat Dunstan and how turn all the evil Karakuri Dôji to their side. Yamato note how difficult to complete such a task since all their enemies were too violent to persuaded peacefully. Yamato also confessed that he doesn't understand the concept of good and evil, but Sayama and Regla assured him that no one really does and encouraged him followed his own beliefs. As the ceremony proceed, Yamato formally paid his respects to Eco, praying to Eco's spirit watch over him until he win the One Hundred Machine Funeral and revive him.

At home, Yamato requested that Ultimo cook a meal since his mother wasn't home and went to take a shower. Free to fret over his worries in private, Yamato reflected how Ultimo seemed to be sad and wanted to cheer him up, vowing to also free Ultimo from Dunstan's selfish experiment. Stepping out of the shower, Yamato was shocked to find his mother home and dressing his dôji in female clothing. When he attempted to berate his mother, Fushimi comically intimated Yamato and demanded him to let her treat Ultimo in whatever way she wanted. After being shooed out of the bathroom, a naked Yamato retired to his bedroom to moped over his lack of progress in fixing his relations with his allies and winning the One Hundred Machine Funeral. As he yelled in frustration, Yamato was comforted by Ultimo and received some new underwear that his mother brought him. Seeing Ultimo in a better mood, Yamato also lighten up and asked Ultimo to take off his clothes, wanting him to change into his usual outfit. As Yamato started to take off Ultimo's dress, Sayama, Akitsu, and Kiyose walked in on them, stupefied them with scene of a nearly naked Yamato and Ultimo dressed like a girl. While everyone reeled from the overwhelming embarrassment, the girls told Yamato to pack a bag because they were going on a trip before being left alone to get ready. Once properly clothed, Yamato found Yoichi and Musashi waiting with the rest of the Good Dôji Club, and was informed that they will going a "study trip" to learn more about each other and their enemies by time traveling to 1947 Japan. Hearing that Hibari was also in trouble, Yamato and the club traveled to Sparrow Place to save her from Vice. During the ride, Yamato and Musashi discussed how to deal with Vice and Yamato convinced Musashi to let him take the lead in confronting Vice since he knew his personality better.

Arriving in time stop Avaro from killing a gravely injured Hibari, Yamato and company learned that Vice underwent a power-up and has the ability to steal the Noh of his brethren. Yamato asked Pardonner to heal Hibari first, but Hibari urged Yamato and their friends to flee since it was dangerous to use Noh in front of Vice. Refusing to let his friend die, Yamato gently carried Hibari in his arms and let Ultimo used his Noh to prevent her from losing more blood. While Yamato struggled to come up with a plan, Musashi planned to go against Yamato's wishes and make the first move, but Vice noticed his intention and sliced off his hand. Yamato and Ultimo drew Vice's attention away Musashi, allowing him to transformed his arm into a large gun and blasted him away. The group quickly fled into the van Yoichi rented for them and began time traveling to 1947, with Yamato and Ultimo carrying the van on their back in their Crane Plane form. During the ride, Yamato proudly bragged how he outwitted Vice to Musashi and everyone else, though his allies' mostly ignored him or made quips at his expense. Yamato grew silent as the others started discussing Vice's Noh stealing ability and pointing out that he could follow them. Yoichi reiterated their goal for their "study trip" was to "know evil" and grow stronger as a team, but Yamato internally doubts if getting their enemies on their side was even possible.

Upon arriving to their destination, Yamato and Ultimo exited out of their ICON mode to survey the war-torn area. When Ultimo asked his master if war was evil, Yamato somberly admitted he doesn't know as he once killed for a cause he believe was right. Since Yamato was still naked, Akitsu told him to get dress, but the group was spotted by Kaizo Oume and his gang. However, Hibari's past incarnation, mafia leader "Single-Shot" Hibari, arrived and quickly defused the situation, and then Yamato and the rest were taken to her home. As they get themselves settled, Yamato and co. were surprised to see Machi and Hiroshi were also in 1947, especially when they learn that it was a "Future Yamato" that brought them to this time period and was the one that sent Hibari to them. Since those who knew about the Future Yamato weren't allowed to reveal too much, Yamato and others agreed with Musashi's suggestion of letting events play out as they should. In the morning, Yamato listen to Yoichi warning him and the younger members not to stand out and stressed that their goal was to learn about good and evil. On Yoichi's advice, Yamato, Musashi, and Sayama wished to acclimated to the era and look around the city to learn more about the society. Before heading out, Yamato and Musashi were informed by Sayama that Akitsu and Kiyose both had past lives in this time period too. Yamato inquired the reason for Yoichi's choice for their trip, Musashi theorize that the Future Yamato may have something to do with it as well. Their conversation was then interrupted by 1947 Hibari, who wrangled the trio into helping her gang carry illegal goods to the black market.

Carrying the packages, Yamato was amused how 1947 Hibari was able to flustered Musashi after expressing his discomfort in breaking the law. She lectured the boys how illegal actions were necessary for people, citing how the corrupted government allowed the citizens starved and her illegal dealings were the only thing that was providing food for the poor. Upon seeing how much the citizens respected and adored Hibari's gang for helping them, Yamato was impressed by the liveness of the place and praised their work. Moments later, an older Hana Koganei and Edile appeared before them and attacked the group, but their dôji protected them and Ultimo freeze the duo in place. When Yamato questioned where were since last night, the dôji revealed that they sense their evil brethren yesterday and that their enemies traveled to 1944 due Vice's stealing Ultimo's Noh, staying there for three years to train. As 1947 Hibari revealed she also knew of their presence and that the evil duo's shenanigans were a declaration of war, Yamato suggested that they used the opportunity to get the duo to join them since Hana and Edile were away from their comrades and didn't have to worry about interference. Although they acknowledge Yamato was right, Musashi and Sayama were against the idea, stating that they need to focus on their own training, talk to the others first, and that were too many uncertainties of what changing sides would do the an evil dôji's powers. After 1947 Hibari callously aim a gun at Hana's head and vote to kill her, Yamato angrily lashed out at all of them for their lack of sympathy towards a child, but was unable to get a response from them since their time stopped by the Future Yamato. Shocked at seeing his older counterpart, Yamato learned that this particular version of himself was created from the moment he wanted to help Hana.

Wanting to show his younger self the future he must create, the Future Yamato transported him and Ultimo to The 30th Century, placing them in amidst a large-scale battle at Dunstan's tower. Yamato was overwhelmed by the sight of future versions of The Evil Dôji Branch fighting against Dunstan's robots, and by the fact they were treating Yamato and Ultimo as their ally. Upon expressing his confusion, Vice and the others realized that Yamato wasn't from their time period, leaving the future version of Rune to explained the circumstances to him. Rune clarify that the battle going on around them was their second attempt in defeating Dunstan because Vice went "wild" and ruin their first attempt. Rune revealed that Yamato will succeed uniting good and evil to beat Dunstan by realizing the importance of balance between the two. Knowing how fragile the timeline was, Yamato questioned whether he should be here or not since he didn't want to disrupt anything, but his older self said there was a reason for him being here. After showcasing God Ultimo Frontal Till Dawn, a ICON that combined the other good Karakuri Dôji together, the Future Yamato told him that Ultimo will evolve to match Vice. Noticing Sayama and Regla were missing, Yamato inquired their whereabouts, to which his future self directed his attention to Dunstan's last line of defense - his daughter, Makoto Saya Dunstan. Bewildered, Yamato conclude that Sayama was tricking him the whole time they knew each other, which the girl also confirmed and tried to wipe his memories. Before she could do so, Yamato and Ultimo were taken back by his future self to the exact moment they left 1947, with time flowing normally once again.

When 1947 Hibari questioned Yamato about his intention for Hana and Edile, Yamato put a pause on his idea and depressingly left the area with Ultimo in tow. While hanging around the city, Yamato sadly lamented the truth of Sayama and refused to go back to the others since he was unable to face her. After Yoichi Oizumi and Service showed up, the older man invited Yamato to a bar, allowing Yamato confide in him about everything he learned. After venting his frustrations, Yamato asked Yoichi what do to, which the latter empathetically expressed his understanding to Sayama's heavy burden. Sharing similar views to the teenager, Yoichi stated that he agreed with Yamato that the concepts of good an evil varied for each individual, adding the people's values will change depending on their circumstances. Offering Yamato his personal opinion, Yoichi stated that everyone was trying to survive in life and that Sayama's guilt towards her parentage caused her to suffered. Realizing his own lack of sympathy, Yamato regained his spirit and dash out to find Sayama with Ultimo, understanding that he must forgive her in order to prevent her from siding with Dunstan. However, Yamato and Ultimo were confronted by Fusataro Fussa and Rage, who wanted to get payback for Hana's defeat. Although Yamato wished to deal with them later, he stopped running when Fussa questioned his trust in Sayama and to forget keeping her on his side, insulting his crush the process. When Yamato tried punched Fussa in retaliation, Rage harmlessly blocked his fists. Unfazed by Yamato's aggressive attitude and open distrust, Fussa offered to join his side, claiming to only care about his personal interests. Despite his disliked towards Fussa and noticing his shady behavior, Yamato was torn on whether to accept his offer since he has to unite the opposing sides, which would require trusting his enemies.

After thinking it over, Yamato challenged Fussa and Rage with the wager of the loser joining the winner's side and agreed to Fussa's condition of not using ICONs. As the battle begin, Ultimo recognized that Rage was physically stronger and request Yamato let him use his Noh, but Yamato deemed Ultimo's Noh unfair and forbid his dôji from using. He ordered Ultimo to overwhelmed Rage with speed, but Rage attacked using his electric Noh and greatly damaged Ultimo. When Yamato attempted to check on his dôji, Rage electrocute him and was prepared to kill him, but was saved by Rune and Jealous. Wanting to take Yamato to Vice and heal him, Rune demanded that Fussa and Rage stand down, giving Yamato time to recovered Ultimo. However, Yamato refused to go with them since the fight wasn't over yet and he must talk to Sayama, though Jealous knocked him down. When Yamato continue to resist and even standing up to Jealous, Rune ordered Jealous to hurt him, leading the evil dôji to cut off one of his arms. Rune taunted Yamato for being "soft" enough to think that he would hold back due their relationship and sling blame on him for mentioning Sayama in front of him. While apologetic for hurting his friend's feelings, Yamato stated to Rune that he can never reciprocate his romantic love he holds towards him. Rune clarify he never asked Yamato return his feelings, merely wanted him to apologizing for hurting his feelings whenever he insensitively expressed his crush on Sayama. Rune proclaimed that Yamato was right that the world isn't about good and evil, but rather the clashing of egos to determine which was right - a statement that led Yamato to have an epiphany. Rune believed Yamato was agreeing with him and took his eyes off him, allowing Yamato to channeled his newfound mental and emotionally state into energy for Ultimo to completely heal. Having followed Yamato from a distance, Yoichi and Service also stepped in to reattached Yamato's arm by using Service's Noh to manipulate Ultimo's Noh on Yamato's body.

Back to full health, Yamato told Rune that he realize that what most important that "feeling like you understand" when it came to trying define complexity of good and evil. Reminding Rune of their promised "love battle, Yamato challenged Rune to settle it and decide which of them was right, which the latter gleefully accepted. Although Rune warned Yamato that his burning jealously would compel him to kill both of them, Yamato was unfazed by his declaration and stated that he wholly accepted Rune for who he was. Transforming into ICON mode, Yamato and Ultimo revealed that Ultimo has attained his Second form - Ultimo Frontal Till Dawn - and was granted heighten abilities, allowing them to achieved ICON Level 2 as a result. Paying no mind to the frighten people below them, Yamato and Rune began their battle, with Yamato demonstrating how overwhelmingly powerful God Ultimo was compared to Demon Jealous. While God Ultimo took the offensive, Jealous's Noh allowed Rune to barely dodged them and was eventually caught in webs, but God Ultimo was able to grab hold of Demon Jealous's knife and prevent them from getting away. Despite his bleeding hand, Yamato focus on speaking to Rune about his feelings towards his best friend. He spoke of his lonely childhood, confessing that deep down he never believe or felt close to anyone until he met Rune. Shedding a tear, Yamato proclaimed to Rune that he helped him understand the true way to victory - giving love and forgiveness - and expressed his own love towards him.

With further confirmation from Jealous, Yamato successfully swayed Rune's heart, but their moment was interrupted by Sayama. After she knocked Rune unconscious, she praised Yamato's growth, but planned to erase his memories of it. She then asked Yamato if he still loved her after knowing her intentions, which he confidently affirmed. Somewhat bemused by his answer, Sayama acknowledged she knew Yamato had a crush on her, though she deemed it "fake love" since she knew Yamato's cheerfulness was a façade. As Sayama swing her brush, Yamato blocked it with his arm and admitted that he knew she was Dunstan's daughter, adding that his feelings towards her were mixed since finding out. When Sayama questioned if Yamato hated her, he kindly just told her that he understand that she had her reasons and inquired why she hid it from him. Sayama admitted that she didn't want Yamato to hate her because she liked him too, surprising Yamato and distracting him long enough for Sayama to bring a smaller brush close to his face. Before Sayama could erase his memories, Akitsu and Slow arrived in their ICON mode and kicked God Ultimo away from her, having overheard their conversation. As Musashi and Kiyose showed up with their Karakuri Dôji, everyone demanded Sayama explained her motives, listening to her reveal her resentment towards Dunstan and her desire to beat by siding with Vice because she felt the club wasn't making any progress. Soon after, members of the Evil Dôji Branch tactically ambushed Yamato's allies to give Sayama an opening use Regula's Noh on them, though Yamato protected Musashi and Sophia from Mizho and Paresse to give them time to transformed into their ICON. Telling Musashi and the others to leave Sayama to him, Yamato faced off with her once more and asked her to be honest with him.

Although Yamato unknowingly hit a nerve, Sayama calmly claimed that everything she said was true and began training blows with him. Ultimo requested Yamato to let him uses his Noh, but Yamato doesn't want to since they need to beat Sayama in a fair fight and convey his sincerity towards her. Using their superior physical strength, God Ultimo was able to grasp God Regla's forearms, leading Yamato to tell that Sayama was weak and that she should join him and the club again. Yamato admitted that he was hurt after learning Sayama's secret, but he still wanted together with her and promised that she wasn't alone anymore now that everyone know the truth. Since their friends also accepted her, Yamato apologized to Sayama for all the hardships she experienced and anxiousness she felt from fearing their reactions, much to Sayama's relief. Appearing in the ICON, Dunstan and Milieu emerged in front of Yamato and captured Sayama, announcing that the One Hundred Machine Funeral was nearly over and inquired what Yamato will do to "evil". Yamato demanded that he let Sayama go, but Dunstan told him that Yamato needed to overcome his final challenge for him and that he await him in The 30th Century. After Dunstan vanished, both sides ceased fighting and head back to their respective residents in order strategize their next move, though Yamato and the Good Dôji Club took an unconscious Rune along and Fussa joined them as well. Yamato sadly reflected his inability to save Sayama, though Musashi assured him he made the right choice not to follow Dunstan, adding that some of their enemies switched to their side and that the future that Yamato witnessed gave them proof the good and evil can coexist. However, Yamato and other members grew concern when 1947 Hibari pointed that Ultimo was missing and then received a warning from Kaizo (who doesn't want 1947 Hibari to die due their business relationship) that Vice was on his way to the house.

Yamato and the able-bodied members went to find Ultimo and discovered that Vice, K and Jun Chichibu in the middle of a intragroup conflict. Taking in the situation, Yamato promised a injured K that he won't let him die and forgave Ultimo for acting on his own, telling his dôji that they must prepare to save Sayama and travel to the future. Although weaken due to Jun's actions, Vice reminded Yamato that he never agree to side with him and called out his remaining allies for a fight. After Musashi failed to talk Vice down, Yamato explained his comrade that a fight was the only way for Vice to fully submit to them, stating Musashi would understand if he had finished reading Eco's manga. After a hard (off-screen) fight and receiving a scar for his efforts, Yamato and Ultimo were able to defeat Vice, successfully converting him into their side and, by extension, the rest of The Evil Dôji Branch. Under Yamato's leadership, he had both sides focused on training for their impending battle with Dunstan for a time. Once they were ready, the masters and their Karakuri Dôji head to Dunstan's tower in the the 30th Century.

During a group discussion, Yamato teased Musashi about his request that everyone being careful, teasing him about how he was still mostly comprised of his head and shoulders after Vice sliced him apart in 1947. He reflected how far everyone has come together and how they were now ready to beat Dunstan. Following Vice's cue, Yamato commended that the siege of Dunstan's tower to commence and entered into his combined ICON mode with the rest of the good dôji. As they near the tower, Dunstan personally confronted God Ultimo and Demon Vice, launching a powerful attack that would have destroy them in one hit. Fortunately, Ultimo used his Noh and had their future counterparts switching places with them, Yamato and co. were able to survived the attack. Yamato note that Dunstan was continuing to test them, to which the old man was amused by his confident attitude and wondered if Yamato believed he could defeat him. Yamato retorted that he and the masters didn't want to beat him, but merely showed that they learned Dunstan's lesson of accepting good and evil as a whole, and importance of always striving to walk a straight path. To show proof of their realization, Yamato called for all the masters to gathered around them and began fusing Ultimo and Vice's souls together. As the Good Dôji Club started fusing Ultimo and Vice's spirit spheres, the Evil Dôji Branch attacked Dunstan and Milieu to covered them from any interferences, which also allowed Yamato to saved Sayama so that she can help complete the fusion and create Ideos Ultimo - a form that symbolize of the unity between good and evil.

With the unveiling of Ultimo's new form, Yamato explained he deduced that Dunstan always knew that to prevent the future destruction of the world that humans needed to know ultimate good and evil. Pleased by both sides' realization, Dunstan praised them for their efforts and revealed the real reason of his experiment was to save the future from its destruction. Dunstan then forcefully dispelled everyone else from their ICONs and immobilize the dôjis, leading all the masters to free fall in the air. Yamato called out to Dunstan as he began to leave, but the old man only vaguely promised the teenager that they would meet again and that the future was in his hands. Using Time-Space manipulation, Dunstan transported Yamato and the others to the 21th Century and turned back time to May 5, though allowing everyone to keep their memories in tact. With his beloved Karakuri Dôji no where in sight, Yamato believed Dunstan took all the dôji back with him, which dampen his joy of having the world return to normal. On his way to school, Yamato met with his friends, who all were equally sadden by the lost of their dôji. Entering the Kokubundo Shoppe, Yamato stared at the empty glass case that Ultimo was once in and remarked on Ultimo's absence. When Sayama arrived, Yamato was surprised to learned Dunstan's experiment was still going on and that "everyone" must here to continue it. Hearing the implication, Yamato was happy to hear that Eco, and Shakujii were alive, but Yamato commented that the dôji were gone. Sayama corrected Yamato and told him that Ultimo was behind him, specifically in the previously empty glass case.

After Ultimo burst out of the case, Yamato became more bewildered when Taiji Kokubun fretting over the broken glass and questioned what the teens were doing to his "grandson". Sayama explained Yamato and the rest of their friends that she used Regla's Noh to manipulate Kokubun's memories to make him believe Ultimo was his grandchild and that Dunstan has turned all the dôjis into humans. Despite everyone's confusion, Sayama reminded Yamato and co. that it was her birthday and to meet at her place for her party later. Sometime after, Yamato learned the whereabouts and circumstances of all dôjis, their masters, and anyone else involved with the One Hundred Machine Funeral. Although he was relieved that those who were dead are alive again and that everyone was living a better life, Yamato was annoyed how Dunstan was still monitoring them, especially since he and Milieu were openly living with Sayama now, making their presence actively known. By nightfall, Yamato and his friends gathered at Sayama's home, with Yamato finally able to procured a present for her and be able enjoy the festivities at his leisure.

Relationships[]

Ultimo[]

Ultimo has been Yamato's dôji for over 900 centuries and compared to the other dôji and their masters, they are very close and openly affectionate to each other. Daruma said they were always "intimate" and "attached to the hip" in the 12th century. In the 21st century, Yamato was a little reluctant to have Ultimo around at first, but after taking The Pledge and remembering the past, he goes back to his former relationship with him. Although Yamato still wants to remain like a normal human and sometimes even thinks about leaving Ultimo, but he always questions if he can really leave Ultimo because he is someone he cares about.

Yamato always very considerate of Ultimo's feelings and asks if he is okay when doing something, such as telling Ultimo that he doesn't need to join the battle at the noble area, knowing many people were going to die that night and asked if he was okay to have him as his master again in the 21st century. Despite his fondness for Ultimo, Yamato admits that he finds Ultimo "scary", especially after he founds out what Ultimo did in the past that he been trying to hide from him: Ultimo killed his lover, Lady Gekko. Nevertheless, Yamato forgave him, much to Lady Gekko's reincarnation, Rune's chagrin.

At the end of the series, after Dunstan turns Ultimo into a human, Yamato and Ultimo continues to live together.

Rune Kodaira[]

"Thanks, Rune!! We're best friends forever!!"
―Yamato to Rune, in Ultimo Ulate Part II[src]

Rune is Yamato's best friend in the 21st century, being the person he is closest to since they met and often his source of help. However, it was revealed in Chapter 10 that Rune was a reincarnation of Lady Gekko, a princess in the 12th Century, who was in a relationship with Yamato and was later married to him. Because Rune always had subconscious feelings for him and is jealous of his crush towards Makoto Sayama, he became Jealous's new master, remembered the past and turned to The Evil Dôji Branch, making him Yamato's enemy.

When Yamato found out the truth he was very shocked and saying that "now is now", as they are both male, best friends and he likes Sayama. Although Rune had gone as far as hurting their friends and fighting with him, Yamato doesn't want to fight, but tries settling it fair and square. When they fought near Mt. Fuji, he told Rune that he understands how he feels, but can't return his feelings. When it looked like he was losing the battle, it was revealed that he was fighting with love to "save" Rune by breaking through his heart. By reading his heart, a tearful Rune asked why Yamato still held "so much kindness" for him and he answered saying "Even I don't understand my feelings", nearly winning him over if wasn't for Vice for stepping in. Ever since Yamato has discovered Rune's feelings for him, he has been very nervous and unsure of his relationship with Rune, but still cares about him and tries to reason with him. However, Yamato admits he can't trust Rune anymore because they are enemies and Rune refuses to change sides due to his anger towards Ultimo for killing him in past life and Yamato's current infatuation with Sayama.

Since Rune is the only person in The Evil Dôji Branch that Yamato truly and unconditionally cares about, he prominently on Yamato's mind whatever he think about the group and express his desire to have his best friend back. In Chapter 48, Yamato and Rune has their promised "love battle" in order to settle their on-going, complicated feud - where Yamato open up his deeply buried feelings for Rune. Yamato confesses to Rune that he always felt lonely and the cheerful demeanor other people usually sees is more or less a facade. Yamato states that Rune was the only person to break his facade and confessed that deep down he has always love (it's unclear whether he means platonic love or romantic love) Rune ever since they were children.

At the end of the series, Yamato and Rune repairs their relationship and goes back to being friends.

Makoto Sayama[]

A 17-year-old girl, who attends the same school as Yamato in the 21st century and one of his friends. He has demonstrated obsessive feelings towards her, ever since their chance meeting in elementary school, but she has yet to provide any indication on whether these feelings are mutual. According to Rune, his mind is overflowing with thoughts of Sayama, and is often disregarding almost everything else like the threats to destroy the city and other consequences where he only thinks about Sayama.

This obsessive crush has once saved him from Jealous in Chapter 18, as the dôji's heart reading ability had him see many mind images of Sayama, acting like shield in Yamato's heart. If Jealous would have performed the pledge with Yamato, his feelings for Sayama would've overwhelmed Jealous, causing him to die. In the past, Sayama was a child in his gang of bandits and he took care of her. Its unknown how close they were, but upon learning this, he was initially shocked at the fact he has a crush on her, even though they're currently in the same age group.

Fushimi Agari[]

Even though Fushimi is Yamato's mother, she frightens Yamato, as he once thinks after an encounter with her that if she was in a bad mood, "She would have kicked my butt". In Chapter 13, he mentions that his day starts usually with her yelling at him. As Fushimi usually shows Yamato a tough, indifferent disposition and is often absence from the house, Yamato acknowledge that they aren't very close, resulting in Yamato feeling lonely for most of his childhood.

Although Yamato cares for his mother, he shows a rather low opinion of her, at least in regard of her capabilities of being a responsible adult. Yamato also seems to be aware that his mother is probably the reason for their poor financial situation, as seen in Chapter 21, when he wonders if they live in an apartment because she did something "wrong" in his past.

Abilities[]

During the 12th century period, Yamato's exploits as a bandit became famous and in doing so he gained considerable skills in both wielding numerous weapons; being proficient in swordsmanship, archery, and horse riding. It appears some of these qualities may have transferred over to his future self, as demonstrated when he preformed a traditional sword swing at Vice, using his school bag in the place of a katana.

In Chapter 17, it was comically reveals that Yamato can tell the exact time with his stomach, an ability he learned from his mother because she wouldn't let him eat any snacks if he was even a minute late to come home.

Quotes[]

  • (To Ultimo, about Vice) "If we kill him, he can't repent. And I just wouldn't feel right. You're right that if we lose, it may all be over...but behaving in a cowardly way means giving into evil. You may not understand...but that's what I think."
  • (To Rune Kodaira) "I'll be honest Rune...I think maybe...I've never believed in anyone. My dad left when I was little and my mom is messed up. She always had others babysit, so I learned to be cautious. They're weren't so bad, but people adopt attitudes to avoid conflict. So I did too. I pretended to be happy to hide my feelings. And I kept doing it and moved to Tokyo and met you guys. When I got involved in this mess...I thought continuing to pretend would help. But Kodaira Rune...you found you way into my heart. Maybe it was because of our past lives, but you broke down my defenses. You said whoever wins is right, but what does it mean to win? Defeating and claiming your opponent...and nothing more? Thanks to you, I've realized something. Giving. Perhaps that is the way to permanent victory. So I've decide to give. And giving is for both boys and girls."
